In the Cadet Tournament, Yuneris Taveras (Bathgate) placed 2nd at 78kg, Ronnie Green (AP Randolph) placed 3rd at 43kg , Destane Garrick (Wingate) placed 5th at 70kg  and Jennifer Juarez  (Robert F Wagner) placed 5th at 49kg. The FILA Junior Tournament proved a challenge for the Beat the Streets contingent. One hundred and seven high school girls competed at the PSAL Girls City Championships this past Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at Wingate High School (High School for Public Service) in Brooklyn, NY.  The tournament served as a PSAL and Beat the Streets qualifying event for athlete sponsorship to the Northeast Regionals in East Stroudsberg, PA, New York State Freestyle Tournament in Schoharie, NY, and Body Bar Women’s National Championships in Lakeland, FL. While Northeast Regionals, the New York State Freestyle Tournament, and Body Bar are all open tournaments, only the most competitive NYC athletes are financially sponsored by the PSAL and Beat the Streets to represent New York City at these events. ...

Please note, additional slots have been added to the Beat the Streets Travel Team contingent to Body Bar. Champions of this weekend's PSAL Girls Individual Championship Tournament at 97, 105, 112, 117, 125, 130, 139, 148, 159, and 172lbs will qualify to represent Beat the Streets at the Body Bar Women's National Championships. An additional two "wildcard" slots will be determined by individual athlete season record and strength of the athlete's schedule. Champions of Body Bar Women's Nationals qualify to represent the United States on either a FILA Junior or a FILA Cadet National Team. Note: 172lbs is not a FILA weight class.

The Public School Athletic League Individual Championship Tournament this weekend, April 27th, at Wingate High School will serve as a qualifer for a number of PSAL and BTS sponsored Travel Team events. The top three girls in each weight class excluding the 255lbs  weight class will qualify to compete at Northeast Regionals in East Stroudsberg, Pennsylvania from May 3rd to May 4th. Weight classes above 172lbs are not recognized by USAW, thus, thus only the top three placers from 172lbs and below will qualify for Northeast Regionals. The champions in each weight class excluding those weight classes above 159lbs, will qualify to compete at the Body Bar National Championships in Lakeland, Florida from May ...

Eighteen high school girls, two college-aged coaches, and one alumna competed this Saturday, April 13th, at the "Revolution in Springfield" Tournament in Springfield, MA. It was a challenging developmental tournament for many. Standouts from Beat the Streets include Destane Garrick who won her weight class. En route to the championship, Garrick beat the 2012 Body Bar Silver Medalist at 70kgs (154lbs), Oliva Toth. Garrick wrestled under Coach Steve Flanagan as a Freshwoman, and under Coach Mike Ferrazano this year in the off-season/folkstyle season at Wingate High School. Fifty one girls from six teams battled it out today at Townsend Harris High School in what marks, for many, the first match of not only this season, but for their wrestling careers. The Townsend Harris tournament was one of two tournaments taking place today. Between Townsend Harris High School and Hunter High School, the 2013 PSAL season opens with over one hundred twenty three girls competing. This doubles the average number of girls competing in Mayor’s Cup, the oldest girls division tournament of the Folkstyle Season in New York City . Mya Evans, 10 years old from Bedford-Stuyvesant, has spent countless hours watching her older sister wrestle for Beat the Streets over the past couple of years. On March 27th, it was finally her chance to compete. She paced back and forth as she prepared for her match. “I’m nervous”, she admitted before she stepped on the mat. However, when the whistle blew to start the match the butterflies disappeared, and when it sounded again to end the match she walked off the mat with a large smile on her face and an impressive decision victory in her first career wrestling match.
