Out of thirty two girls competing at the New York State USA Wrestling Freestyle Tournament this weekend, twenty six came from Beat the Streets. Of ten weight classes, six were won by Beat the Streets girls. In the third year of its existence, the BTS Girls Program has achieved phenomenal growth. Female athletes going to States this weekend should meet at the Manhattan Training Center at 12:15pm on Friday, May 4th. A bus for the girls will depart from the Manhattan Training Center at 145 Thompson Street, New York, NY 10012 at 12:30pm. Expected return from the Tournament will be 9pm, Saturday, May 5th. The Permission Slip and Entry Blank for NY-USA Wrestling Junior & Cadet Women’s State Championships from May 4th to May 6th are now available online. To ensure ample space on the bus and in the hotel for this event, each interested athlete should return her permission slip and completed entry blank to Coach Cheryl Wong by the end of the Jamboree at Townsend Harris on Sunday, April 29th. The Girls’ Division of the Tournament hosted at the Petrides Educational Complex replaces the normal BTS Girls’ Saturday practice held at the NYAC this Saturday, April 21st. Weight classes in the Girls Division are 97, 105, 112, 117, 121, 125, 130, 139, 148, 159, 172, 198. All weights will have a three pound allowance. Weigh-ins start at 7:30am and wrestling begins at 10:00am with a clinic held at 9:30am, prior to wrestling. An entry fee of $25 and a USA Wrestling card are required. Girls interested in going to the New England Freestyle Championships on April 14th in Springfield, MA must notify Coach Wong and/or submit their Out of State Travel Permission Slip to her by April 10th, Tuesday in order to reserve space in the van. All athletes are responsible for their own $15 entry fee, registration, and food during the trip. Given the departure time for this trip at 6am, and the distance many of the girls will have to travel, Beat the Streets is considering the offering interested athletes the opportunity to sleepover at the Manhattan Training Center on Friday, April 13th. Tomorrow,  April 6th, Friday BTS Girls practice will  run from 3:30 to 5:30pm.  Next Friday, April 13th, BTS Girls practice time will return to the normal time, 6:00-8:00pm.
